- Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd has said he was wrong to shelve the government's Emissions
Trading Scheme. He told Q and A some cabinet members wanted to kill off the scheme for
good, he tried to find a middle ground by delaying it.

- The federal opposition says the government's proposed carbon tax is the reason it
took a hit in the latest Newspoll, which has the opposition ahead by 13 per cent on the
primary vote.

- The Commonwealth says a decision on the site of Sydney's second airport needs to
be made, with five-hour delays predicted for Sydney Airport within a decade.

- NSW's new finance minister Greg Pearce has defended the decision to strip some ministries
of their powers.

-In New Zealand, the Pike River Coal commission will hold its first hearing in Greymouth
