MEXICO CITY, Mexico -- The following information was released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico:
A seminar on job opportunities for Mexicans in the United Nations was given yesterday in the Foreign Ministry by staff from the United Nations Human Resources department.
The seminar was held because of the interest of the Mexican government in increasing the number of Mexicans hired by international organizations and, especially, by the United Nations, given that Mexico is its tenth-largest contributor.
This is the first time that the UN has devoted a week to explaining the hiring procedures and job opportunities available in the UN for Mexican professionals in many different fields.
More than 250 representatives from universities, civil society organizations and professional associations in Mexico City, Hidalgo, Morelos and Queretaro attended the seminar, which was also broadcast over the internet.
The seminar is part of an initiative of the Mexican government to increase the number of Mexican internationalists hired by the United Nations. Similar seminars will be held this week in Puebla, Merida, Guadalajara and Monterrey.
The Mexican government thanks the United Nations for their commitment and willingness to help Mexican citizens create more and better ties with the UN. It also thanks the state and municipal authorities and other institutions that have provided the facilities needed to hold this event in five states.
