NSW: Boy, aged 11, among three charged over rape of teenage girl

ORANGE, NSW, Aug 23 AAP - Three young boys, including an 11-year-old, charged with
raping a 13-year-old girl laughed at the allegations during police interviews, a court
has been told.

A 15-year-old boy and his 11-year-old brother faced Orange Children's Court in central
western NSW today charged with aggravated sexual assault.

A third boy, aged 14, faces the same charge but did not appear in court today.

The 11-year-old is believed to be the youngest person ever charged with such a crime in NSW.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in jail.

The trio allegedly raped the girl on July 20 after chasing her into the grounds of
an historic Orange home after meeting her at a skate park.

Police documents tendered to the court allege the boys pushed her to the ground before
two of them made her perform oral sex on them while the third indecently assaulted her.

The girl also received cuts and bruises from being pushed to the ground, the documents said.

The documents said the three were arrested after being spotted at a supermarket by
a witness to the alleged attack.

When interviewed by police on July 27, they allegedly refused to answer questions and
laughed at the officers present, the documents said.

Defence counsel Andrew Rolfe, for the 15-year-old, told the court there were issues
with the identity of the girl's alleged attackers.

"There are issues about (which) young children were actually involved in the offence," he said.

Magistrate Jan Stevenson remanded the 15-year-old in custody and continued strict bail
conditions for his brother.

She also extended a police apprehended violence order (AVO) against the third boy,
which was initially granted on July 27.

The two brothers waved and laughed at each other during today's court proceedings.

Magistrate Stevenson ordered the three return to Orange Children's Court on September 6.
