Vic: New pet owners to undergo tests
New pet owners in Victoria might have to pass a test to prove they can be responsible
under a plan to protect dogs and cats.
The Lost Dogs' Home, with the backing of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty
to Animals, reportedly hopes the state government will support the plan.
Agriculture Minister KEITH HAMILTON has told the Herald Sun some licences are already
needed for native animals and reptiles.
He says he'll meet with those advocating a pet licence next year to discuss their ideas.
Under the test people would have to answer multiple-choice questions about pet care
essentials such as feeding, exercise, grooming and obedience training.
Those who failed would not be allowed to buy a pet.
