A teenage girl who was near death after surgeons mistakenly implanted a heart and lungs with the wrong blood type into her chest underwent an emergency second transplant Thursday in a desperate attempt to save her life.
Jesica Santillan, 17, was in critical condition in the pediatric intensive care unit after her second four-hour heart-lung transplant at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C., where the original mix-up occurred.
